Acoustic Guitar & its basic Info



Acoustic Guitar has 6 strings.Guitars sound is based on sizeof soundbox.Larger the soundbox better the quality.It comes in 2 main sizes & 2 styles.

Main difference between jumbo & mini is no. of frets it contains.Jumbo contains more than 16 to 22 frets,however mini has about 15-18 frets.More the No. of frets more funky tones can be generated.

In Indian music we have 7 basic notes & they r Sa-Re-.....-Sa.In guitar we have A-B-C....-G.
However Sa is not equal to A & vice versa.In International standard tuning A's frequency is set to 440 Hz & relatively increasing order for B to G.

Now hold ur guitar, 6 strings are named in sequence.Now As ur holding guitar the thinner string i.e. lowest one is string no.1 & as u come upwards the topmost thick string is No.6
String No. 5 & 6 are called base strings.

Now string here is string no & string names

1 e
2 B
3 G
4 D
5 A
6 E

Now guitars notes are arranged as follows
A - A#/Bb - B - C - C# - D - D# - E - F - F# - G - G# - A

Now # represents sharp note
b represents flat note.

When playing notes from A upto G we say all intermediate nottes as sharp,however while playing from G to A we say intermediate notes as flats.

So in ascending order we
A - A# - B - C - C# - D - D# - E - F - F# - G - G# - A

& in descending order
G - Gb - F - E - Eb - D - Db - C - B - Bb - A - Ab - G

so we can say that
A# = Bb, C# = Db, F# = Gb, G# = Ab

U'll see 2 dots in middle of 12th fret,it signifies that u can get same note as u can get when string is played open.That means u get "E" without pressing any fret on 1st & 6th string so u can get same "E" (in higher octave) on 12th fret(while pressing string on 12th fret & plucking string).

If u look at ur fret board starting from ur left hand,u start numbering them as 1 to 12.Now remember we have to press fret in its middle only & pluck string.Now u'll get other notes too.
So on string No.6 i.e topmost string E.

Check this out we started with open string E & on 12th fret we got same E but in higher octave
draw a chart for all remaining strings.
